Our preferred approach to building out our network is to use existing infrastructure, wherever possible. Where this is not an option, the next best approach is to use telegraph poles.
Due to the unique nature of the market in Hull, we are still working on a process by which Connexin can share infrastructure with other network providers.
We are committed to making infrastructure sharing happen, but the other operators have to be open to enabling this too. There are regulations which enable sharing access to physical infrastructure (e.g., ducts and poles) across communications companies. Ofcom, the telecoms regulator, is there to enforce the rules and resolve any disputes that may arise, but the onus, at least in the first instance, is on providers to agree commercial terms for sharing infrastructure. Network operators are encouraged to share the use of electronic communications apparatus, where practicable. Frustratingly this is still not happening.
