Yes, the technology is safe. The gateways use LoRaWAN®, a low-power wireless communication technology. The power output is similar to a car key fob – just 14dBM, or 25mW – and much lower than everyday devices like Wi-Fi routers, mobile phones, or even baby monitors.
LoRaWAN® operates on radio bands that are well within UK and World Health Organisation (WHO) safety limits. Because it is low power and only sends small packets of data, there is no evidence it causes any health risks.
This technology is already used safely in smart city and environmental monitoring projects worldwide.
